Shalena Broadnax is a writer, filmmaker, and activist. She got involved in activism at the age of 17 by becoming a YA-YA (Youth Activist, Youth Allies) Network member. She currently volunteers at The Door, a New York City center that provides comprehensive youth development services in a diverse and caring environment in order to empower young people to reach their potential. In addition, she also does freelance work as a Production Assistant.
Shalena currently studies film and cultural anthropology at the City University of New York - Brooklyn College. Her main goal is to eventually create either a film production company or a non-profit organization that focuses on empowering young women to become leaders through the arts.
